Seminar Assignment ( Third Paper To Learn )

On Tuesday, 6 October 2015, My Lecturer gave an assignment again on his course. He told to us to searching paper about energy saving in WSN and then submit in national seminar. Our assignment in groups. One group there were three student. I grouped with senior student.

We chose the paper that we think not difficult to learn and relevant enough with assignment topic.

So, Information about this paper according my understanding is

4) Summary Of Reported Research :

This paper propose two routing protocol. Cluster Head ( CH ) is leader for nodes in one cluster which select base on distance and distance combine with energy residual.

DB LEACH implementing selecting Cluster Head base on distance parameter only. Different with DBEA LEACH which implementing selecting Cluster Head ( CH ) base on distance and energy residual.

DB LEACH and DBEA LEACH more efficient in term of energy than many varian of LEACH like T LEACH, K LEACH and of course LEACH. And DBEA LEACH is the most efficient among. DBEA LEACH make better conserving energy and guarantee longer network lifetime.

5) Strength Of Invention:

This paper propose two routing protocol to energy saving on WSN. That are DB LEACH and DBEA LEACH. Both of them is better if compare with another Varian of LEACH.

6) Weakness :

Author said, "Although our proposals can achieve performance improvements, still many aspects of its design need to be investigated using heterogeneous scenarios and constraints such as quality of service aware mechanisms, encoding and compression techniques, multi-levels transmissions, and complex clustering models. Also, since there are other factors that may affect the energy consumption, comprehensive simulation and analysis could be further investigated".

I think many critical case for further research about WSN energy saving. Many problem that author said are close relation to the development of LEACH Varian.

7) Limitation:

In this paper compare five varian of LEACH among other is LEACH, K LEACH, T LEACH, DB LEACH and DBEA LEACH. Using software MATLAB to simulating several parameter environment size 100 x 100 meter, All nodes have first energy parameter 0,1 Joule. And probability node become Cluster Head is 0.05.

From this parameter, the goal is get data about:
>> How many number of dead nodes ?
>> How many number of Cluster Heads ( CH ) ?
>> And How long network life time? This can be seen from sum energy of all nodes when last round.

From This paper i was learn another problem in WSN Topic. Main problem is how to saving energy. But the sub problem is tvery diverse.

The First Assignment Of WSN Course ( The Second Paper To Learn )

On Tuesday, 22 September 2015, My Lecturer gave an assignment on his course. He gave us the soft copy of seminar proceding which contain 23 paper collection about WSN.

Among many paper, my lecturer told us to choose one of the paper, According to name list of class, i got short paper which title :


This paper so very different with previous paper. In this paper concern to explain about Wireless Sensor Actuator Network ( WSAN ) Which ussualy aplicable in industrial appliance. Even Though my research plan is about Consensus Estimation On WSN.

I think its so fine because i haven't much knowledge about WSN. It will be important thing for me.

So

Information about this paper according my understanding is :

4) Summary Of Reported Research :

Process automation is very important in various industrial fields . Generally, the industry used a network cable to connect sensors, actuators and the control room as automation component for continuity production processes . Surely cable systems have many disadvantages. Among others is high cost installation and maintenance. Beside that is difficulty of placement and reconfiguration cable. So this make difficult to facilitating new production process especially technical demand.

Wireless Sensor Actuator Networks ( WSANs ) is highly recomended because it does not use the cable for data communications and power source. One of product WSANs is WirelessHART.

In industrial standart, An ability that must handle by WSANs is e.g

>> Network must supporting two routing method, That are " Source Routing " which provide single route for each data flow. And " Graphic Routing " which provide redundant data flow.

>> Network must using multi chanel Time Division Multiple Access ( TDMA ) on MAC layer above IEEE 802.15.4 for physical layer. This order to only one transmission on schedule slot.

Critical result of this paper is WirelessHart capable to supporting two routing method "Source Routing " and " Graphic Routing ".  Graphic routing is more better in term of reliability, Latency and energy consumption.


5) Strength Of Invention:

On previous paper generally explain about WSANs but only term of theoritical about routing and latency. In this paper explain about real application of WSANs on WirelessHART. Many problem but nothing explain before especially " Graphic Routing ".

6) Weakness :

Using Dijkstra’s shortest-path algorithm and Monotonic Scheduling algorithm but nothing formula or equation to explain about algorithm. I think this paper explanation very less theoritical.

7) Limitation:

The research of conducted is Implementing WirelessHART protocol with TinyOS 2.1.2 and TelosB motes. Using Dijkstra’s shortest-path algorithm to generate routes for source routing. The schedule generator uses rate Monotonic Scheduling algorithm to generate transmission schedules. Developed a multi-channel TDMA on MAC protocol. Finally comparating two routing method.

In our assignment, Every student in the class presenting summary of each paper chosen. Each student was given two minutes to presenting their summary. But mostly student spent more three minutes even more. It make my lecturer rather annoyed.

From this paper, something that should be known or just know is :

1) What different from WSN and WSAN ?
2) What is WirelessHART ?
3) What is TDMA, CSMA and several other.
4) MAC Layer and Network Layer.

First Paper About Wireless Sensor Network


I was a Telecomunication Engineering student at an Institute Of Technology in my city. Certainly every student should do some research , this time I took concentration to the field of Wireless Sensor Network ( WSN ). Supervisor recommends to study this paper . And this is the first paper that I learned.

2) Title Of Paper : " On Energy for Progressive and Consensus Estimation in Multihop Sensor Networks ".

4) Summary Of Reported Research :

Using the exact energy model and taking advantage of diverse channel gains of multiple subchannels, this algorithm is more general and yields more energy saving than the previous algorithm developed
in previous paper.

The other aspect is an in-depth study of the energy cost for consensus estimation in broadcast multihop sensor networks. Insights have been developed into the energy cost in terms of transmission energy, quantization bits allocation and fusion rule.

5) Strength Of Invention :

Author said that result  in this paper are much stronger than that in

Y. Huang and Y. Hua, “Energy planning for progressive estimation in multihop sensor networks,” IEEE Trans. Signal Process., vol. 57, no. 10, pp. 4052–4065, Oct. 2009.

because use the exact channel energy model (not an upper bound) and optimize both quantization and transmission bit allocation (not just quantization bit allocation).

6) Weakness :

>> What author said is:

This Paper explain about three basic architecture of WSN.

First explain about " Single Hop with Fusion Center". In this architecture, every nodes transmitt data directly to Fusion Center. Fusion Center is could be define with Base Station. Weakness in this architecture is when distance between nodes to Fusion Center is to far. This will make wastefull energy.

Second explain about " Multi Hop with Fushion Center ". In this architecture, data packet can be relayed from one sensor to another until it reaches a fusion center. The Multi Hop architecture is generally more efficient in energy than the Single Hop architecture. Weakness in this architecture is when data packets are not compressed as they hop towards the fusion center, the sensors near the Fusion Center can be over hard work,

Third explain about " Broadcast Multi Hop ". In this architecture, every nodes broadcast their data to every neighbour which possible to receive, Ussualy this architecture using Consensus Estimation. Weakness in this architecture is Without the knowledge of the network topology or some global statistical information, a node in the network cannot know when an updated information is reliable enough.

>> What my understanding is:

I think author try to explain weakness about Consensus Estimation in Broadcast multihop architecture. And propose to use Progressive Estimation.

7) Limitation:

In this paper, author explain the energy cost for communication in WSN by jointly considering networking architecture, data fusion method and channel energy model.

furthermore develop generalized energy planning algorithm for progressive estimation in multihop WSN with fusion center.

And the last, author explain about energy cost for consensus estimation in a broadcast multihop WSN subject to a pre-given performance. This allows a comparison between progressive estimation and consensus estimation in terms of energy cost.


How about me ? I think this is paper which difficult to learn for me. But i've got a lot of important learning from this paper.
